Ausdance NSW ‘Dance Artist in Residence’ presents the development of CALLE, a dance research project that focuses on dance as protest, using current times in Santiago, Chile as its case study. The project asks, how can dance be political? How can the artistic value in dance as protest be foregrounded from a non-western perspective?

Activist and Dance Artist: Gabriela Green Olea
Collaborators: Claudia Müzenmayer, Coti Cibils, Keila Terencio de Pauls, Maria Francisca Escobar Nachar
Mentor: Rakini Devi

Gabriela Green Olea is a dance artist living on Wangal/Darug land who works across many mediums and in inclusive environments. As a daughter and granddaughter of a refugee family in Chile, her work responds to the ideas of cross-cultural identity and the transitional space of belonging to community and place. Most recently, Gabriela is interested in Dance as Activism and is a 2021 resident artist at PACT on Gadigal Country with her group CALLE, made up of dancers and activists of the Latin American diaspora. She is a member of the We Are Here company with Emma Saunders in Western Sydney and works regularly with DirtyFeet.
