The BOLD Festival celebrates all moving bodies and the legacies of our elders.

March Dance is thrilled to partner with BOLD Festival (ACT) in 2022.

The BOLD Festival is an international presentation of intercultural, inclusive and intergenerational dance programming. BOLD draws on the legacies of our cultural elders, celebrating the empowerment of ageing.

The Festival is unique in Australia and provides a platform for the work of older and still practicing artists to celebrate their longevity and the health impacts of dance and creativity. BOLD also celebrates the cross-generational exchange of ideas and experiences and the ways in which cultural legacies inspire emerging artists.

Between 2 - 6 March BOLD22 will present 10 world premieres, 8 national premieres and 3 established works alongside talks, workshops and films presented across the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), National Library of Australia (NLA), National Portrait Gallery (NPG) National Gallery of Australia (NGA), Gorman House, QL2 Dance and Canberra Theatre Centre CTC).

Interdisciplinarity is explored through connections between movement, science, multiculturalism, history and art with an emphasis on Australian indigenous dance heritage. Established in 2017 as a platform for dance elders, BOLD has been re-envisioned in direct response to the changing needs and sector diversity of practice, including cultural practice, people with a disability, LGBTQI+ and inclusion.

Our performing program includes professional and community dance artists. The powerhouse of artistic excellence presenting/attending/participating builds our audiences of dancers, artists, critics, academics and health professionals.

The inaugural Festival occurred in March 2017 and 2019. Talks, workshops, films and performances were hosted by four national institutions and one dance organisation: the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), National Library of Australia (NLA), National Portrait Gallery (NPG) National Gallery of Australia (NGA) and Ainslie and QL2 Dance.

The 2022 festival will continue the focus on the interconnectivity that marks the dance world, with interdisciplinarity explored through connections between movement, science, multiculturalism, history and art, with an emphasis on Australian indigenous dance heritage.

In partnership, BOLD and March Dance presents ‘Eileen Kramer in conversation with Sue Healey.’

NSW artists featured in the festival are Elizabeth Cameron Dalman, Tammi Gissell, Anca Frankenhauser, Agal Dance Company, Lucky Lartey, Ryuichi Fyuichi, Patrick Harding Irmer, DMC and Chris Wade.
